Panel discussion (in English language) with Damian Böselager and others: “Is Security a European Issue? Why Defense, Resilience, and Democracy Cannot Be National Endeavors”

One thing Putin and Trump certainly seem to have in common: a strong, free, democratic Europe is a thorn in their side alike. The U.S. security strategy calls for the dismantling of the EU, not to mention Putin’s funded hate and disinformation campaigns against a “weak” Europe—and both Trump and Putin support far-right nationalist parties with whom they share the common enemy  EU. How can we in Europe protect ourselves from seeing the most successful peace project on our continent meet a miserable end? How can we preserve and protect our democracies in an age when propaganda on social media is cheaper and more effective than tanks and drones? Isn’t a joint defense by all member states far more cost-effective and powerful than national solo efforts? What role can and should Austria play in a European security architecture? Shouldn’t we, as Europeans, understand that we can only be strong together?
